In recent years, a CISO has taken on a broader role in their workplace. A cloud engineer is a professional responsible for any technical tasks related to cloud computing, including planning, management, design, maintenance, and support.
However, someone who is in the field of cyber security will lean towards cloud security engineering, which means they are responsible for cloud computing and security within a company. An information security manager is a professional who is responsible for designing and implementing security systems that protect the computer networks of an organization or company from cyber attacks and help establish security standards. A security architect is a cyber security professional responsible for maintaining a company's computer system. They must be alert at all times so as not to allow any threat to become a crime.
Many security architects are former hackers, as they need to know how a hacker's brain works to prevent them from breaching their security. An information security officer is a professional who is responsible for designing, implementing, managing and assigning all information security measures within a company. They are directly dependent on a CISO and, in smaller companies, they even take on the role of one. The field of cyber security offers many career opportunities, penetration testing, cloud computing and security architecture.
In addition to these high-paying jobs, there are many more that have average salaries well above average. However, we have chosen some that stand out. At Northeastern, faculty and students collaborate at our more than 30 federally funded research centers, addressing some of the biggest challenges in health, safety and sustainability. The city has more than 3,800 open positions for cybersecurity professionals, while the total number of cybersecurity workers employed has surpassed the 4,500 mark.
Another beautiful city to find a cyber security job is Des Moines, Iowa. With more than 3,400 cybersecurity workers employed, the City of Des Moines also has approximately 2,500 jobs ready to fill. The city has only 373 job openings in cybersecurity right now, but it has more than 1,050 cybersecurity employees. New York State is also among the highest paid states for cybersecurity jobs in the United States.
In addition to this, Virginia also has the highest number of information security analysts compared to any other state and is a hub for some of the largest companies on the Cyber 500 lists. To add to the icing on the cake, a study revealed that Virginia is ranked 13th on the list of the highest paid states for cybersecurity jobs in the United States.
